MR-US Fusion Targeted Biopsy Boosts Detection of Prostate Cancer

Targeted biopsy of suspected prostate cancer (PCa) lesions, identified using magnetic resonance-ultrasound (MR-US) fusion, increases PCa detection and detects aggressive tumors that may be missed by conventional biopsy, according to a study published in The Journal of Urology (2012;189:86-92). Toronto’s medical community is buzzing about an invention that could change the way health professionals screen for infectious disease and cancer. “We’ve been working on this, really, for about a decade,” said Dr. Shana Kelley, a scientist at the University of Toronto.
